Welcome to the Education Page of the APL Manieri Jazz and Swing Endowment. We believe that a significant part of our mission is to welcome both young and old in our community to the joy and appreciation of jazz and swing music. The very future of a thriving music culture in Anacortes lies in the hands of an eager audience, and the more people know, the more they accept it as an integral part of our culture. This will ensure the future of jazz and swing music.
Our signature program has been, Jazz at the Library on the 2nd Sunday of each month from 2 – 3:30 pm. Jazz educator and musician, Vince Fejeran hosts; and ensures that each artist and musical group represents a different style, in an engaging and informal setting. Musicians encourage questions and discussion and it is a great place to meet others of all ages, who also enjoy jazz, swing and blues music.
Our other planned educational events have included “What Makes Jazz Jazz?” a lecture/demonstration series, and “How to Listen to Music Like a Jazz Musician”, an upcoming series taught by local musician, Todd Anderson.
Our educational programs are still in process; with new activities, performances and programs being introduced monthly. We are currently working on a partnership with the Anacortes School District – gifting tickets for students to see professional jazz and swing musicians in Seattle, bringing musicians to perform concerts in our Anacortes Elementary Schools (TUBALUBA Band just visited three of our elementary schools on Feb. 6, 2015), and bringing professional musicians into the schools to workshop and perform with students.
This summer, we are aligning with the Anacortes Arts Festival, sponsoring the MANIERI JAZZ STAGE. We are working on providing workshops with pro’s who are performing at the festival…. more on that soon.
We have other plans, hopes and dreams. If you have any suggestions, please go to the Contacts link and send us a message.
